Digital TV Transition
With the February 2009 transition date well on its way, it's a good idea to get prepared for the digital TV (DTV) switch.
How can I be sure I am ready for the switch?
If you subscribe to Central Cableland TV, Emery Cablevision or McCook Digital TV for your television service, then you are ready for the transition. We will take care of the transition for you.
How do I know if I need a converter box?
If you rely on an outside antenna or indoor “rabbit ears” to receive broadcasting signals then you need to purchase a digital-to-analog converter.
Where can I purchase a converter box?
National retailers, such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Radioshack, and Wal-Mart, will carry converter boxes. Please call retailers ahead of time to confirm converter box availability.
How much does a converter box cost?
Individual retail stores set the price for converter boxes. They are expected to be between $50 to $70. Congress has established a program to help consumers with the purchase of converter boxes. Each U.S. household is eligible to obtain up to two coupons worth $40.00 each to be used towards the purchase of certain converters at participating retailers. After coupons, converter boxes should be $10 to $30. Coupons expire 90 days after they are issued.
